One of the things that's always defined the Stockroom is the very high quality of our photography. At the risk of sounding just a little conceited, we want the images on our site to match the quality of our products — especially the ones that we design and make ourselves.
But more importantly, we want to inspire your imagination; when you come to our site, we want our products and our photos alike to help you envision new possibilities in your erotic life. As our longtime motto says, "Life is too short for mediocre sex." That goes double for mediocre sex photography. The Stockroom wants to offer something special.
In December, we did a shoot with a new model named Mariah to show off our new product, the Stupid Cute Bow Restraint along with the Lolly Crop and our classic Bolero Straitjacket. It was a great success, in every sense of the word, and we thought that our customers would like a closer look at how our images happen.
A photo shoot — even with a model as charismatic as Mariah — is a strange and contradictory mix of tedium and excitement. On the one hand, there are a million technical details to look after: Lighting checks, making sure that the props are in just the right spot, dealing with last-minute crises. Getting those shots means dealing with getting a lot of minutiae to line up in just the right way at just the right time.
But at the same time, everyone on the crew is highly creative — from the photographer to the people working the lighting to the models. Even a slight change in the way the light and shadows fall can take an image from soft and sensual to looking like an outtake from a cheap zombie movie, so meticulous care and patience is essential.
In the end though, it was a highly positive experience for everyone involved. Our photographer Ish described it as, “...a very refreshing experience for us.” He also spoke well of Mariah’s modelling skills: “She was a natural at bringing the edge we needed for such an adorable item and was flawless in her posing while restrained." (This last part is not as easy as some kinksters might think.)
